Who wouldn’t like more confidence, right?  Hmmm, maybe those who are already confident.  Maybe, you are like me, where I move in and out of periods of confidence, and sometimes, I’m just plain faking it.

For those of us who want more, I have good news. Confidence is a skill, cultivated through consistent effort. By incorporating small daily practices into your routine, you can nurture a strong sense of self-assurance and set the stage for personal and professional growth.

Let’s learn how you can build and maintain your confidence one day at a time.

1. Journaling: Reflect, Recharge, and Refocus

Journaling is a powerful tool for gaining clarity, tracking progress, and boosting self-esteem. Writing down your thoughts and experiences provides a moment to reflect on your accomplishments and challenges.

How to Get Started:

  • Morning Pages: Spend 5–10 minutes every morning writing freely about your goals for the day. This can help you start with a clear mind and a sense of purpose.
  • Daily Wins Journal: At the end of the day, jot down 2–3 things you accomplished, no matter how small. This practice helps you recognize your achievements and keeps negativity at bay.

Example: Instead of focusing on what didn’t go as planned, celebrate that you reached out to a new client or completed a challenging task. Over time, these small celebrations will reinforce your sense of capability.

I also use journaling to work through anything troubling me or explore something I want more clarity on.

2. Practice Positive Affirmations

Affirmations are simple, empowering statements that help reframe negative thoughts and instill confidence. When spoken or written consistently, they can rewire your mindset and boost self-belief.

How to Use Affirmations Effectively:

  • Personalize Them: Use affirmations that resonate with your specific goals. For instance, if you’re working on growing your network, try saying, “I am confident in building meaningful connections.”
  • Repeat Daily: Write your affirmations in your journal or say them out loud each morning. Repetition is key to making them stick.
  • Believe in Them: It’s crucial to say affirmations with conviction. Stand in front of a mirror and repeat your chosen phrases while maintaining eye contact.

Examples of Affirmations:

  • “I am worthy of success and capable of achieving my dreams.”
  • “I face challenges with courage and resilience.”
  • “Every day, I grow more confident and capable.”

If you struggle to believe in the affirmation you have created, tweak it to make it believable.  For example, use progressive language or focus on actions (over outcomes).

3. Celebrate Small Achievements

Success isn’t just about reaching big milestones; it’s also about acknowledging the smaller steps that lead you there. Celebrating small wins reinforces your progress and motivates you to keep going.

How to Celebrate:

  • Create a “Win Wall”: Dedicate a space in your office to display reminders of your accomplishments, such as thank-you notes, awards, or client testimonials.
  • Reward Yourself: After completing a task, treat yourself to something enjoyable—a coffee break, a favorite snack, or even a quiet moment of relaxation.
  • Share Your Wins: Share your achievements with others, whether through social media or conversations with trusted friends and family.

Remember: Recognizing your progress, no matter how incremental, helps build a strong foundation of self-confidence.

Lately, I’ve struggled with focus.  I’ve started using a timer to keep myself focused for 30-60 minutes.  Then I have 5-10 minutes to do something I want to do, like a reward.  The amazing thing is that even after the alarm goes off, I often keep working on what has my attention and then take my 5-10 minute break/reward after I’m done.  The commitment of only 30-60 minutes keeps me focused with the promise of a reward when I’m done.

4. Embrace a Growth Mindset

Confidence flourishes when you focus on learning and growth rather than perfection. A growth mindset allows you to see challenges as opportunities and setbacks as part of the journey.

Tips for Cultivating a Growth Mindset:

  • Learn from Mistakes: Reflect on what went wrong and use those insights to improve. Remind yourself that failure is a stepping stone to success.
  • Seek Feedback: Constructive feedback helps you identify areas of improvement and validates your strengths.
  • Stay Curious: Continuously invest in learning, whether through books, courses, or networking events.

5. Build a Supportive Network

Surrounding yourself with uplifting individuals can have a profound impact on your confidence. Seek out mentors, peers, and friends who inspire and encourage you.

How to Strengthen Your Network:

  • Join Communities: Become part of entrepreneur groups, whether online or in-person, to connect with like-minded women.
  • Attend Events: Networking events and conferences provide valuable learning opportunities and building relationships.
  • Be Vulnerable: Share your challenges and successes with trusted allies who can offer advice and celebrate your achievements.

Pro Tip: A supportive network, like the Flourish and Thrive Mastermind group, boosts your confidence and provides resources and insights to help you thrive in your entrepreneurial journey.

6. Take Care of Your Physical and Mental Well-Being

Confidence stems from feeling good in one’s own skin. Taking care of one’s health is essential for maintaining self-esteem and energy.

Small Daily Practices for Self-Care:

  • Exercise: Regular physical activity boosts mood and reduces stress. A brisk walk or quick workout can do wonders for your confidence.
  • Mindfulness: Practice meditation or deep-breathing exercises to center yourself and reduce anxiety.
  • Healthy Nutrition: Fuel your body with nourishing foods to maintain energy and focus throughout the day.

Example: Start your day with a 10-minute yoga session and a balanced breakfast. This simple routine can set a positive tone for the rest of your day.

I started a walking challenge this year. It’s cold out, and so the parks and sidewalks are relatively empty in my neighbourhood. I’m finding the quiet walks to be very peaceful.

7. Set Clear Intentions

Confidence grows when one has a sense of direction and purpose. Setting clear intentions helps one prioritize tasks and stay focused on what truly matters.

How to Set Intentions:

  • Define Your Goals: Break down larger objectives into smaller, actionable steps.
  • Visualize Success: Spend a few minutes each morning visualizing yourself successfully completing a key task.
  • Track Progress: Use tools like planners or apps to monitor your progress and stay motivated.

Pro Tip: Keep your intentions realistic and aligned with your long-term vision. Overcommitting can lead to unnecessary stress and diminished confidence.

8. Dress the Part

Your appearance plays a subtle yet powerful role in boosting your self-esteem. Dressing in a way that makes you feel confident and professional can positively influence your mindset.

Tips for Confidence-Boosting Style:

  • Wear What Makes You Feel Powerful: Choose outfits that align with your personal brand and make you feel your best.
  • Stay Comfortable: Confidence shines when you feel at ease in your clothes. Avoid anything restrictive or distracting.
  • Accessorize Thoughtfully: A statement piece, like a bold necklace or a tailored blazer, can enhance your overall look and mood.

Example: Putting on a blazer before a virtual meeting can instantly make you feel more poised and prepared to take on the day.

Even though I work from home, I get ready as if I’m going to an office. This helps me get into the mindset of working.

Conclusion: Confidence is a Daily Practice

Building confidence as an entrepreneur doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of consistent, intentional practices that empower you to navigate challenges and celebrate progress. By integrating habits like journaling, affirmations, and self-care into your daily routine, you’ll cultivate a resilient and confident mindset that supports your success.

You can start by picking one or two of these practices, building the habit, and then adding another if you want.

Remember: Confidence isn’t about being perfect; it’s about believing in your ability to grow, adapt, and thrive. Start small, stay consistent, and watch your confidence soar.

Success is built on the foundation of small, consistent actions taken with confidence and courage.
