Everything feels heavy right now.  Do you agree?  Every time we scroll through the news, we’re met with another heartbreaking headline. The weight of global events, personal struggles, and everyday stress can feel paralyzing, making it hard to focus, stay motivated, or even get through the day.  This year, I’ve had a few days where some news stops me in my tracks, tears run down my face, my focus falters, and my sleep suffers.

It’s those days when life feels overwhelming that I can struggle to move forward.

If you’re feeling stuck under the weight of everything happening around you, you’re not alone. But even in the midst of chaos, we can find ways to keep going. Here’s how to maintain forward momentum when the world feels unbearably heavy.

Before We Begin, a Reminder: The World Needs You

If you’ve found yourself wondering, What’s the point?—if you’re questioning why you keep fighting to keep your business going, why you keep pushing forward despite the challenges—let me remind you of something important: The world needs you.

It needs passionate, heart-centered business owners. It needs people who lead with authenticity, who care about making a difference, and who are committed to serving others. The world is filled with uncertainty, and now more than ever, it needs individuals like you—people who aren’t just in it for the profit, but for the purpose.

Your work matters. The people you help, the impact you create, the values you uphold—these things make a difference, even when it doesn’t always feel like it. The world needs more businesses built on integrity, compassion, and service. It needs you.

So, if you’re feeling tired, if you’re questioning whether to keep going, let this be your sign: Don’t give up. Keep showing up. Keep leading with heart. You are making a difference, even on the days when it’s hard to see.

Ok, now let’s focus on how to keep moving forward … more clarity on.

1. Acknowledge the Weight—But Don’t Let It Drown You

It’s okay to feel heavy. It’s okay to acknowledge that things are hard. Ignoring or suppressing difficult emotions doesn’t make them go away—in fact, it can make things worse. Instead of pretending everything is fine, allow yourself to sit with your feelings.

  • Name what you’re feeling. Overwhelmed? Hopeless? Drained? Sad? Angry? Giving a name to your emotions can help you process them.
  • Set boundaries with the news. Staying informed is important, but doomscrolling won’t fix the world’s problems—it will only leave you more exhausted. Consider limiting your news intake to once or twice a day.
  • Accept that some things are out of your control. It’s frustrating, but not everything is within our power. Focus on what you can control instead.

By acknowledging the weight without letting it consume you, you create space to move forward.

2. Create Small, Achievable Goals

When life feels overwhelming, even small tasks can feel impossible. Instead of trying to tackle everything at once, break your day down into small, manageable steps.

  • The “Just One Thing” Rule – Pick one thing to focus on at a time. Whether it’s sending an email, folding laundry, or drinking a glass of water, one small action can create momentum.
  • Use Micro-Wins – Completing small tasks (even tiny ones) builds confidence. Checking things off a list can give a sense of accomplishment.
  • Celebrate the little victories. Got out of bed? That’s a win. Cooked yourself a meal? Another win. In tough times, even the smallest acts of resilience count.

When the world is too heavy, shifting your focus to what you can do—rather than what you can’t—helps build forward motion.

3. Shift Your Focus to What Brings Light

With so much darkness in the world, it’s important to remind yourself that goodness still exists. The news cycle tends to highlight the worst, but there is still beauty and kindness around us.

  • Seek out positive stories. Look for uplifting news, acts of kindness, and moments of joy.
  • Practice gratitude. Take a moment to list three things you’re grateful for each day. Gratitude doesn’t erase problems, but it shifts your focus to what’s still good.
  • Surround yourself with uplifting content. Follow social media accounts that inspire you rather than drain you. Listen to podcasts that leave you feeling hopeful instead of hopeless.

Redirecting your attention to what brings light into your life can help balance out the heaviness.

4. Take Care of Your Body, Even If Your Mind Feels Heavy

When we’re emotionally overwhelmed, self-care often takes a backseat. But taking care of your body can have a huge impact on your ability to move forward.

  • Move your body. This doesn’t have to mean an intense workout—just a short walk, stretching, or even dancing to your favorite song can help shake off stress.
  • Get enough rest. Sleep is crucial for emotional resilience. If you’re struggling with sleep, try reducing screen time before bed or listening to calming music.
  • Nourish yourself. Even if you don’t have the energy to cook a full meal, make sure you’re eating something nutritious. Food fuels your ability to keep going.

Your body and mind are deeply connected—taking care of one helps the other.

5. Limit the Energy Drains

When life is already heavy, protecting your energy is essential. Identify what’s draining you and set boundaries to minimize it.

  • Avoid unnecessary stressors. If certain social media accounts or conversations make you feel worse, mute or unfollow them.
  • Say no when you need to. You don’t have to take on extra responsibilities if you’re already struggling.
  • Prioritize what truly matters. Focus your energy on the things that align with your values and well-being.

Protecting your energy gives you the strength to keep moving forward.

6. Connect with Others (Even When You Feel Like Isolating)

When the world feels overwhelming, it’s easy to withdraw. But connection—whether with friends, family, or a support group—can help lighten the load.

  • Reach out to someone you trust. Even a short conversation with a friend can make a big difference.
  • Join a community. Whether online or in person, connecting with people who understand can provide comfort and encouragement.
  • Be honest about how you’re feeling. You don’t have to carry everything alone. Let people support you.

You’re not alone in this. Letting others in can help ease the weight.

7. Find Moments of Peace and Joy—Even in the Chaos

Even in the heaviest times, there are still small moments of peace and joy to be found.

  • Step outside. Fresh air, nature, and sunlight can help reset your mood.
  • Engage in something creative. Whether it’s writing, painting, or playing an instrument, creativity can be a great emotional outlet.
  • Laugh when you can. Watch a funny video, talk to a friend who makes you laugh—laughter is healing.

Joy doesn’t mean ignoring reality; it means allowing yourself to experience lightness even when things are dark.

8. Remember: Moving Forward Doesn’t Have to Be Fast

If you feel like you’re barely making progress, remind yourself that moving forward doesn’t have to be fast or linear. Some days, progress looks like getting through the day. And that’s okay.

  • Give yourself grace. You don’t have to have it all figured out.
  • Take it one day at a time. Focus on the present rather than the overwhelming future.
  • Know that this heaviness won’t last forever. Even the darkest seasons eventually pass.

If all you can do today is take a deep breath and try again tomorrow, that’s enough.

Final Thoughts

The world is heavy right now, and it’s okay to feel the weight of it. But even in the midst of uncertainty and sadness, you have the power to keep moving forward.

Start small. Be gentle with yourself. Protect your energy. Find moments of light. And remember—you’re not alone in this.

The world is heavy, but you are still here. And that means there is still hope.

When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high, and don’t be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet sliver song of a lark.
