Have you ever noticed that the more you think about something, the more you start to see it everywhere? Whether it’s opportunities, problems, love, fear, or abundance—life tends to mirror what we focus on. This isn’t just a poetic idea—you truly do find what you seek.
This simple yet profound concept has roots in psychology, philosophy, and even spiritual traditions. But beyond all that, it’s a powerful mindset shift. And once you understand it, it can change how you move through the world.
Our brains are wired to filter information. Every second, millions of bits of data enter through our senses. To prevent overload, the brain uses something called the Reticular Activating System (RAS). This acts as a mental gatekeeper, filtering what we notice based on what we believe is important.
This is why when you’re thinking of buying a red car, suddenly it feels like red cars are everywhere. Your brain didn’t change the world—it just started showing you more of what you’re focusing on. This was true for me after I bought a Jeep. I never saw them before I bought my bright blue Jeep, now I see them EVERYWHERE!
So when you seek something—whether it’s growth, connection, peace, or even conflict—your mind will start finding ways to validate that search.
While this power of seeking can be transformational, there’s an inherent risk that’s just as important to understand:
We don’t just seek with intention—we often seek to confirm what we already believe.
This psychological tendency is known as confirmation bias. It’s the brain’s habit of searching for, interpreting, and remembering information that supports our existing beliefs while ignoring or downplaying anything that contradicts them.
In other words, if you believe people can’t be trusted, you’ll mostly notice the moments when someone disappoints you—and overlook the dozens of times they were kind or dependable. If you believe you’re not capable, you’ll seek proof in your failures, not your growth.
This bias keeps us safe in familiar beliefs, but it also keeps us stuck. We filter out valuable perspectives, opportunities for growth, and even healing—simply because they don’t match what we’re already convinced is true.
That’s the danger of unchecked seeking: it can close us off from what’s possible. It can prevent us from exploring alternatives or considering other perspectives.
To evolve, we have to be brave enough to question what we’re seeking and why.
So ask yourself:Are you looking for truth, or just comfort?
Are you seeking clarity, or just validation?
This shift in questioning can be a game-changer. Because the beauty of being human is that we can challenge our assumptions. We can grow out of old stories. And we can seek something better—even if it means stepping outside what’s familiar.
When we seek with openness, not just certainty, we unlock a deeper kind of wisdom.
So how do we avoid the trap of seeking only what we already believe?
The answer is curiosity.
Curiosity is the antidote to confirmation bias. It asks, What if I’m wrong? What if there’s more to the story? What if I’ve only seen part of the picture?
When you’re truly curious, you don’t just seek evidence—you explore ideas. You listen more than you speak. You suspend judgment long enough to consider alternatives. And most importantly, you stay open.
Before we create anything meaningful—whether it’s a relationship, a career path, or a belief system—we need to explore.
Curiosity invites exploration without pressure. It allows you to investigate, question, wonder, and wander. It’s the space between knowing and doing, and it’s absolutely essential for growth.
Curiosity says, “Let’s see where this goes,” instead of, “I already know.”
And from that mindset, truly transformative seeking begins.
You’ve probably heard of the Law of Attraction—the idea that like attracts like, and that your thoughts can create your reality. While some versions can seem overly simplified (just think it and it will happen!), the core truth remains:
What you consistently focus on influences how you act, what you notice, and how the world responds to you.
But focus without curiosity can turn into rigidity. When you’re both focused and curious, you stay flexible and engaged—and that’s where the magic happens.
Seeking is active. It implies effort, direction, and desire. But seeking is most powerful when it’s paired with curiosity—because then you’re not just chasing an outcome, you’re exploring possibilities.
Only after we’ve explored—after we’ve asked enough questions, considered enough perspectives, and opened enough doors—do we step fully into creation.
And when we do? We create not just what we wanted, but what we needed—because our curiosity helped us find it.
1. Ask Better QuestionsInstead of “Why does this always happen to me?” try “What am I meant to learn from this?”Or instead of “Is this right or wrong?” try “What else could be true here?”
2. Set Curious IntentionsShift from rigid goals to curious ones. “I want to grow” becomes “I’m curious how I can grow today.”
3. Try Something New—Just BecauseRead a book you wouldn’t normally read. Talk to someone with a different background. Go somewhere unfamiliar. Let curiosity guide you.
We’re all seekers by nature. But seeking without curiosity leads to confirmation. Seeking with curiosity leads to clarity.
Be bold enough to wonder. Be humble enough to question. Be open enough to explore.
Because once your seeking becomes curious and intentional, your reality starts to shift—and your creations become reflections of your truest self.
